13 ADPP grantees are nominated for the 2018 Joop Swart Masterclass

The World Press Photo Foundation announced the nominees for the 2018 Joop Swart Masterclass, an event that is run annually for the world’s most talented emerging visual journalists. The 2018 selection included 216 photojournalists from around the world of which 13 Arab Documentary Photography Program grantees: Sima Ajlyakin (Syria), Tasneem Alsultan (Saudi Arabia), Samar Hazboun (Palestine), Mohamed Mahdy (Egypt), Hadeer Mahmoud (Egypt), Medhi Mariouch (Morocco), Ahmad Mousa (Iraq), Roi Saade (Lebanon), Mustafa Saeed Jirdeh (Somalia), Fethi Sahraoui (Algeria), Muhammad Salah Abdul-Aziz (Sudan) Btihal Remli (Morocco) and Sara Sallam (Egypt).

 

The final 12 participants will be announced during the World Press Photo Festival, taking place in Amsterdam 13-14 April.

 

The Arab Documentary Photography Program - ADPP is a jointly funded program by AFAC and the Prince Claus Fund, in partnership with the Magnum Foundation. ADPP supports and amplifies creative approaches to visual storytelling that challenge conventional narratives about the Arab region. Selected grantees receive production support for long-term creative projects within an eight-month individual mentorship program with the program’s mentors. To date, ADPP has supported 38 projects.
