Four AFAC-supported films stood in the spotlight at the 40th CINEMED - International Mediterranean Film Festival of Montpellier which took place from October 19 to 27, 2018 in Montpellier, France.
The prize for best documentary film, the Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole Ulysses Award, was bestowed upon “Erased,__Ascent of the Invisible” by Lebanon’s Ghassan Halwani. In the documentary section, “Railway Men” by Tunisian director Erige Sehiri received a Special Mention and Mohamed Siam’s “Amal” (Egypt) received the Student Award for Best Debut Work.
Among the fiction features, Palestinian director Bassam Jarbawi’s “Mafak” (“Screwdriver”) picked up the Social Energy Activities Young Audience Award.
Other Arab films were awarded at the festival including “Tel Aviv on Fire” by Palestinian director Sameh Zoabi (JAM prize for best music, composed by French composer André Dziezuk) and “Roujoula” by Moroccan director Ilias El Faris (the Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole Grand Prix for Best Short Film).
