The AFAC-supported documentary “Those from the Shore” by Tamara Stepanyan won the Best Documentary Film Award at the Lebanese Film Festival - LFF 2018 (17-21 September).
“Those from the Shore” reveals the state of limbo in which Armenian asylum seekers found themselves in 2014 in Marseille, as they tried to survive while waiting for their applications to be considered. Forced into stillness and impotence, they lived in an in-between space: between two countries, between two lives.
Among this year’s LFF Jury members were previous AFAC Grantees Cynthia Zaven, composer, pianist and artist; award-winning documentary maker Hady Zaccak; and fiction writer and film director Darine Hotait.
The LFF 2018 Official Selection Awards is comprised of four competition categories: Best Fiction, Best Documentary, Best Experimental Film, and Best First Film. The following Lebanese films were announced as winners of the three remaining categories:
Best Fiction Film – “Last Days of the Man of Tomorrow” by Fadi Baki
Best First Film – “The Incident” by Meedo Taha
Best Experimental Film – “The Night Between Ali and I” by Nadia Hotait and former AFAC grantee Laila Hotait Salas
